My creative partner Tim Lillis and myself built a small mission-focussed interactive design agency in 2016, based in some of the principals we learned from our award-winning interactive magazine. It's a lot of work, and the business model (only mission-driven clients, sometimes comically small fees) doesn't make it a full-time endeavor. But with clients like the International Committee for the Red Cross, Human Rights Watch, and the Dodge Foundation, we found a steady niche for the type of work we love to do (and win Webbys for).
